Aaah, so much for getting back into posting.<br />
Trying again.<br />
<br />
This time with pictures from the Colonial Williamsburg trip we took in June, because AJ edited them so I don't have to bother with that!<br />
<br />
First time there for all of us!<br />
I could easily spend a lot longer than we did, pouring through the museums but alas AJ, Judy, and their partners... none of them museum people! <br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qFEVBWW8qRU/WZPGa00k7-I/AAAAAAAAByg/Dsiy0hQjv3wSv2rFwpqk9G_Cs4vU1RwZACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-10.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qFEVBWW8qRU/WZPGa00k7-I/AAAAAAAAByg/Dsiy0hQjv3wSv2rFwpqk9G_Cs4vU1RwZACPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-10.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Also I'd like to go back and do aaaall the tours. I love all the history!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B0FnKl-6sUk/WZPGfUVwFzI/AAAAAAAAByg/NVqyLC-pXjgAAl3Zqo_aGcy_jEj2O1lRACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B0FnKl-6sUk/WZPGfUVwFzI/AAAAAAAAByg/NVqyLC-pXjgAAl3Zqo_aGcy_jEj2O1lRACPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-3.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
AJ and I made outfits specifically for this, light cotton was perfect and comfortable!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u4s85ZPttK0/WZPGegc77GI/AAAAAAAAByg/FQ44tZzlTe8ehjUWiTgXickfeAtJH13ywCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-27.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u4s85ZPttK0/WZPGegc77GI/AAAAAAAAByg/FQ44tZzlTe8ehjUWiTgXickfeAtJH13ywCPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-27.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Judy was much more striking in silk, fancy lady that she is.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XER4-4xP7wA/WZPGhVio7lI/AAAAAAAAByg/PGTz47pQK64ijjooONRnTWaiaLY6S30yACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-38.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XER4-4xP7wA/WZPGhVio7lI/AAAAAAAAByg/PGTz47pQK64ijjooONRnTWaiaLY6S30yACPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-38.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
AJ dyed IKEA sheets for her fabric, turned out lovely!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WSYVHbJypFI/WZPGfzFw0BI/AAAAAAAAByg/GHQkw5LxD3gnb6OjzVQYSm770ky7BaqrACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-30.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WSYVHbJypFI/WZPGfzFw0BI/AAAAAAAAByg/GHQkw5LxD3gnb6OjzVQYSm770ky7BaqrACPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-30.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
My fabric I actually bought for a Regency, but I'm really trying not to buy more fabric so used it for this instead.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fk6b_DOfpE0/WZPGgM_88QI/AAAAAAAAByg/JFVmkczdAqU567O-BYiS4vOcJ8CJv8BAACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-31.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="213" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fk6b_DOfpE0/WZPGgM_88QI/AAAAAAAAByg/JFVmkczdAqU567O-BYiS4vOcJ8CJv8BAACPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-31.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I'll hopefully have a post later about construction, but originally I wanted fitted long sleeves. Went with the shorter puffed sleeves due to time with the intention of making the other sleeves later, but woooow it's so comfortable, and my mobility was much greater than AJ and Judy so now I'm torn!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I6ijGyk_w-U/WZPGg2G3_tI/AAAAAAAAByg/h-5GygM1BWsYBy1GesOR0SkqU7afdmP4ACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-36.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="213" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I6ijGyk_w-U/WZPGg2G3_tI/AAAAAAAAByg/h-5GygM1BWsYBy1GesOR0SkqU7afdmP4ACPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-36.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Also I was going for a specific type of hat I'd seen in portraits <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/174373816805295941/" target="_blank">like this</a> that's not as shallow as the bergere. But I'm pretty sure I got the crown height a little uneven :/<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AxjFQ0d6SKU/WZPGgOomtwI/AAAAAAAAByg/hbFBKm_QPZ8mG2wAT8Qfh1ZjrU6f_CtGgCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-32.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="213" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AxjFQ0d6SKU/WZPGgOomtwI/AAAAAAAAByg/hbFBKm_QPZ8mG2wAT8Qfh1ZjrU6f_CtGgCPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-32.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I always had to stand in the middle, or else my white-ness caused me to blow out XD<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-COyK1QQcUSA/WZPGjmh13OI/AAAAAAAAByg/wRP_HGxuDmsxoBWNs4elIr5w2bDwUbZQACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-43.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-COyK1QQcUSA/WZPGjmh13OI/AAAAAAAAByg/wRP_HGxuDmsxoBWNs4elIr5w2bDwUbZQACPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-43.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Judy's hat makes me really want some feathers for when I redo mine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fdhi9nbhR90/WZPGkeJmWBI/AAAAAAAAByg/jwnsEyof2EIOWLXGTKsMe9lRg1vC5ddSgCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-48.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="213" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fdhi9nbhR90/WZPGkeJmWBI/AAAAAAAAByg/jwnsEyof2EIOWLXGTKsMe9lRg1vC5ddSgCPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-48.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I'm going to add a hem to my dress next time I wear it, as somehow it ended up too short.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2n8PfN-V-bQ/WZPGjfeEibI/AAAAAAAAByg/nKo-O6rI5Us9O2Gr0j9J7GWsocQJF5BmwCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/williamsburg2017-42.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="213" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2n8PfN-V-bQ/WZPGjfeEibI/AAAAAAAAByg/nKo-O6rI5Us9O2Gr0j9J7GWsocQJF5BmwCPcBGAYYCw/s320/williamsburg2017-42.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm also debating adding... snaps. To keep the belt a little lower. It kept creeping up and creating more of a Regency look.<br />
<br />
Okay commentary over.<br />

This costume was actually the main reason for that photoshoot weekend!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vHQdr3pJIIc/WIo7ouuJRcI/AAAAAAAABpc/7BJ7Cn1TcWEpAgqjyrAUaPT96X0RsXJcQCLcB/s1600/jareth-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vHQdr3pJIIc/WIo7ouuJRcI/AAAAAAAABpc/7BJ7Cn1TcWEpAgqjyrAUaPT96X0RsXJcQCLcB/s320/jareth-3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I made this for Costume College 2015, but never actually finished it with a correct necklace/symbol and his chest piece. AJ also didn't completely finish her costume for that year, so we decided to make this photoshooting weekend the goal to get them done!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gP6dno30wqs/WIo7o-_dHlI/AAAAAAAABpg/fswGudDUVbMvI-xpY05EFUctOPBv-5c5wCLcB/s1600/jareth-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gP6dno30wqs/WIo7o-_dHlI/AAAAAAAABpg/fswGudDUVbMvI-xpY05EFUctOPBv-5c5wCLcB/s320/jareth-6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
To be honest... it's still not 100% done -_-<br />
I have more painting to do on it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qSUkSCQGuqI/WIo7mwk9xmI/AAAAAAAABpQ/7h7KJQUIp-M8QCp_uj3BsvAoLVGeG9GnACLcB/s1600/jareth-16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qSUkSCQGuqI/WIo7mwk9xmI/AAAAAAAABpQ/7h7KJQUIp-M8QCp_uj3BsvAoLVGeG9GnACLcB/s320/jareth-16.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Also my chest piece... fell apart and needs to be redone.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m27LGy6mQLk/WIo7mwzVo6I/AAAAAAAABpM/-JElMGacRqI-iOJO1FD9qoUUqdhlguv5ACLcB/s1600/jareth-14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m27LGy6mQLk/WIo7mwzVo6I/AAAAAAAABpM/-JElMGacRqI-iOJO1FD9qoUUqdhlguv5ACLcB/s320/jareth-14.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
"Hard" costuming (as in, not soft/fabric) is really not my strong point so I made some stupid mistakes.<br />
But I think I know how to fix it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-orxwLrqY3Dk/WIo7moLvZVI/AAAAAAAABpI/MQ8nD14iQ14w8jaEypc3bfi2YvCKBUcYQCLcB/s1600/jareth-19.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-orxwLrqY3Dk/WIo7moLvZVI/AAAAAAAABpI/MQ8nD14iQ14w8jaEypc3bfi2YvCKBUcYQCLcB/s320/jareth-19.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
But even though it's not perfect, I'm SUPER happy with how the necklace came out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M-o2hQriPJI/WIo7nRmhDlI/AAAAAAAABpU/hvdrpxZoPHgZIs3VnYPhAiTPNbOFpUjdQCLcB/s1600/jareth-22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M-o2hQriPJI/WIo7nRmhDlI/AAAAAAAABpU/hvdrpxZoPHgZIs3VnYPhAiTPNbOFpUjdQCLcB/s320/jareth-22.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
AJ did most of it 8D But then we made a mold so I can cast a bunch of them for my future Jareth costumes. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ueIdtGSbCwk/WIo7oVUeFtI/AAAAAAAABpY/Wg0fQysPWoU0GNJ7Kss5s_oM43K8d-azgCLcB/s1600/jareth-29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ueIdtGSbCwk/WIo7oVUeFtI/AAAAAAAABpY/Wg0fQysPWoU0GNJ7Kss5s_oM43K8d-azgCLcB/s320/jareth-29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
So now I just need a new deadline to <i>actually </i>finish 8D;;</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6WRRT5qXpWY/WNnrlsI4cgI/AAAAAAAABrI/ahjmOlpSkt8srPzQDIjkgiELmaWDKfsZQCLcB/s1600/jedi-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6WRRT5qXpWY/WNnrlsI4cgI/AAAAAAAABrI/ahjmOlpSkt8srPzQDIjkgiELmaWDKfsZQCLcB/s320/jedi-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
On another day we did two of my semi original outfits.<br />
In 2008 I made an original Jedi, based a bit on Luminara Unduli/Barriss Offee. It's not really a feat of construction or anything, but since we were already taking pictures and I didn't have any it worked.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dD5szTYl_F8/WNnsk8YK3PI/AAAAAAAABrY/C9T2qIHkEHUvGYzgnz7XxVW-r8UQL7WZwCLcB/s1600/vilya-15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dD5szTYl_F8/WNnsk8YK3PI/AAAAAAAABrY/C9T2qIHkEHUvGYzgnz7XxVW-r8UQL7WZwCLcB/s320/vilya-15.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
The other outfit was made in 2005 for a masquerade entry, the three of us were meant to be Elvish personifications of the three rings of power from Lord of the Rings. I was Vilya, the ring of air. As Elrond's ring, I based my design basically on a mishmash of his movie costumes just in all white. <br />
<a name='more'></a>Molly did my makeup, since neither of these things have a set look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ms4XqXbGsbg/WNnrgQfE02I/AAAAAAAABrA/brGf7eu-jmASWZBeZXYR78TQ3lQfVBAxgCLcB/s1600/jedi-17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ms4XqXbGsbg/WNnrgQfE02I/AAAAAAAABrA/brGf7eu-jmASWZBeZXYR78TQ3lQfVBAxgCLcB/s320/jedi-17.jpg" width="213" /></a><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lHbvc8l8XXc/WNnrj5L_QNI/AAAAAAAABrE/xh3tafgNEu8zNzpwe99yUAxw5SxG35nmQCLcB/s1600/jedi-8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lHbvc8l8XXc/WNnrj5L_QNI/AAAAAAAABrE/xh3tafgNEu8zNzpwe99yUAxw5SxG35nmQCLcB/s320/jedi-8.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
The skirt, turtleneck, and gloves I already had, which actually drove the design since at the time of making I was super strapped for time. Also originally this outfit didn't have tabbards, I actually made those for my brother who was six at the time. He definitely doesn't fit that outfit anymore, but I do! So I stole it (the top bits anyway, so basically the two shirts and the tabbards).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AryZ8e09lC8/WNnsssZv24I/AAAAAAAABrk/2UfRghlJ7ocFnH-QTyE5kyJlxfB23X9CwCLcB/s1600/vilya-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AryZ8e09lC8/WNnsssZv24I/AAAAAAAABrk/2UfRghlJ7ocFnH-QTyE5kyJlxfB23X9CwCLcB/s320/vilya-4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
This outfit on the other hand, was a lot of work at the time.<br />
It's hard to see, but all the linework coming from my shoulders, and going down the back, is embroidered on (seriously never doing that again unless you can SEE the work I put into it).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P6hBGuRRB3c/WNnsnBrUD3I/AAAAAAAABrc/GilMv5Og878ALmetohJeUISpP4CH4pXGACLcB/s1600/vilya-18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P6hBGuRRB3c/WNnsnBrUD3I/AAAAAAAABrc/GilMv5Og878ALmetohJeUISpP4CH4pXGACLcB/s320/vilya-18.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
I really liked the sleeve details I had, and the overlapping petal sleeve took me an unreasonable amount of time to figure out back then, but I can definitely see where I'd do things differently now (especially the shoulders...)<br />
<br />

Oh man, I've had these posts sitting half finished in my drafts for awhile now.<br />
Going to try to get back into the swing of posting with several "catch up" posts from 2016 (I don't even know what happened to blogging in 2016!)<br />
<br />
So first up, back in September <a href="http://www.confused-kitty.com/">AJ </a>& I took a few days off too photoshoot old costumes so we'd have pictures before tossing or repurposing them.<br />
The timing kind of sucked for real life reasons, but I went ahead and did it and here are the results.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZoZ3cIOtEPo/WNnqDTvdWCI/AAAAAAAABqc/bDoNS5UAmEQcQ8I8wWib9P3R-7WYSrZMgCLcB/s1600/ayame-10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZoZ3cIOtEPo/WNnqDTvdWCI/AAAAAAAABqc/bDoNS5UAmEQcQ8I8wWib9P3R-7WYSrZMgCLcB/s320/ayame-10.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
On day One we shot Ayame from Fruits Basket, which I made in 2006, wore for literally 2 hours in 2007, and has been in a bin ever since.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TbF5FukZhT0/WNnqgtD4o3I/AAAAAAAABqs/5toOKhcUH0YqY8WZkeV_MwCUXwHRtku9QCLcB/s1600/hotohori-7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TbF5FukZhT0/WNnqgtD4o3I/AAAAAAAABqs/5toOKhcUH0YqY8WZkeV_MwCUXwHRtku9QCLcB/s320/hotohori-7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
We also shot Hotohori from Fushigi Yuugi, made in 2005 dear lord.<br />
<br />

Oh man, I didn't realize it'd been that long since I posted.<br />
<br />
I actually really miss posting! But I feel like my house progress isn't really... postable, it's so slow and the differences are that noticeable unless you're doing it or 2" from the thing being sanded for the bagillionth time. And for sewing, I get so excited to sew when I *can* sew that I forget to take progress pics 8D Or they're gifts and I have to wait.<br />
<br />
I'm currently gift sewing so, more waiting, but I realized I DO have some things I can post!<br />
<br />
... coming soon.<br />
<br />
I figured if I put this reminder to myself here, I would actually do it! So hopefully :D</div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
I kept putting this off in December hoping I could finish some things, but that didn't happen. Then I was kind of bummed because 2015 wasn't very productive in terms of measurable things. I did do a lot and kept very busy, but not in the way of "I made xxx amount of things awesome!"<br />
<br />
And the things I did make were different from my usual fare (such as branching out into gardening [very time consuming], canning [ditto], baking [yup, same], and home improvement [ooooh yes]), and I spent a lot more time reading last year and attempting to work out (uuuugh, why doesn't sewing burn more calories?).<br />
<br />
But! I feel like 2015 laid the groundwork for loads of productivity in 2016! Especially in the sewing department, as I got close to finishing a lot of WIPs so those should be wrapping up in 2016.<br />
<br />
So, here are some highlights of 2015!<br />
<b>Sewing!</b><br />
<br />
<a href="http://make-it-sew.blogspot.com/2015/03/sewalong-challenge-2-complete.html">Messenger Bag for my brother</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wm8YrO8wfqA/VQHPUDwL2HI/AAAAAAAAAvs/uDomTnE-8xc/s1600/IMG_7636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wm8YrO8wfqA/VQHPUDwL2HI/AAAAAAAAAvs/uDomTnE-8xc/s320/IMG_7636.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Okay I've made a lot of bags now, but I really loved how clean this one looked. And I liked putting piping in 8D<br />
<br />
<u>D's Wedding dress!</u><br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/21985549878/in/album-72157657517845844/" title="004"><img alt="004" height="640" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5738/21985549878_4ab9128dc8_z.jpg" width="469" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
I just realized I never blogged about the complete thing, so maybe I should do that. But it was a really fun challenge. Also very time consuming now that I'm thinking about it, so that's another place my time went XD<br />
<br /></div>
<a href="http://make-it-sew.blogspot.com/2015/06/misc-may.html#more">Pencil case for my sister!</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
A simple thing, but I love all the fun fabrics. <br />
<br />

Also super simple but man do I use these all the time. And do my sisters, so that was a success!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://make-it-sew.blogspot.com/2015/10/misc-pics-catch-up.html#more">Jasper shirt! </a><br />

Actually I'm wearing this shirt right now. I only made two items of clothing for myself in 2015, so it wasn't exactly stiff competition, but this was my favourite 8D<br />

This was a fun bag to put together, and I've been using it as my purse. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to stop doing that 'cause I've just been carrying too much stuff with me 'cause with this larger purse I forget to clean it out more :/ But! It's still a nice bag.<br />

Basically, my beets were gorgeous, and I enjoyed making loads and loads of pickles (boo, couldn't find the picture of my loads of cucumbers and jars).<br />
<br />
For 2016 I really plan on more of the same! More using up stash, more gardening, more blogging (it may not seem like it, but I was waaaay better about it in 2015 than 2014), more commenting on other peoples' blogs (ugh, delurking is hard), more baking. Really looking forward to finishing WIPs, that's for sure.<br />
And in the way of using up fabric that I have, I think a few Regency dresses and at least one Victorian are in order. I want to do more periods (though, who am I kidding, Regency for life!) but they tend to require large amounts of just one fabric whereas I have mostly bits and pieces. Possibly these smaller cuts can be used to create proper underthings, so when I feel like my stash is small enough to buy more fabric I already have those done, but we'll see!</div>

I have loads of little things in progress right now, but nothing finished just yet so it feels like I'm doing nothing >.<<br />
<br />
So here's just a smattering of pics of two things I've been working on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UZM2wV7kE34/Vi6G163qn0I/AAAAAAAABaY/JV6HPOyBYMo/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UZM2wV7kE34/Vi6G163qn0I/AAAAAAAABaY/JV6HPOyBYMo/s320/photo%2B3.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
I posted this pic in one of the random pic posts before. The stooooory is, in December 2010 I went to Japan and thought I should make myself a lovely coat to wear there. This is as far as I got, that's the liner in the pic, but the shell is at the same spot. When I went to set the sleeve I reeeeeally didn't like the shape of the sleeve head, but I didn't really have time to mess about with drafting a new one, and I wanted to add some things, aaaand I ended up getting a lovely wool coat on holiday sale anyway.<br />
<br />
It's <a href="http://butterick.mccall.com/b5425-products-10530.php?page_id=407">B5425 from Butterick btw</a>, view C cut at A's length (also note, it's going to hit just above the knees on me and I shortened it a few inches from the A cutting length, so it runs long).<br />
<br />
Anyway, so got that other coat, folded this up to finish later aaaand... never got around to it ;_;<br />
I'm very much deadline driven, so I have loads of half finished "real" clothes that get pushed aside for costumes or presents that have to be made at a certain time. It's been sort of nagging at me since I moved though. Then one of the bloggers I read sometimes posted about finishing a quilt she started in 1991 and I was like whoa, I do NOT want that to happen to me! I need to go through my bins and finish what I want to finish and toss what I don't.<br />
Then I started to read Lladybird's blog, and she has <a href="http://lladybird.com/2013/08/14/how-do-you-find-the-time-to-sew-so-much/">an excellent post on how she sews so much</a>, and I realized that I *am* at my most productive when I do those things, I'd just never really thought about it before. But one of the things she doesn't do, that I clearly do (did?), is allow UFOs! (UnFinished Objects)<br />
<br />
So that long story really is just to say, I'm going to finish this coat XD<br />
<br />
That fabric is like ... twill weight. Which is nice, but not really coat-y. So I went to Joann to get some flannel to underline it with, and it happened to be 50% off, scooore.<br />
<br />
More pics and rambling after the cut!<br />
<a name='more'></a> <br /><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CiIG_fNTFw4/Vkp05CWrRlI/AAAAAAAABbU/UykapOh3ZEY/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CiIG_fNTFw4/Vkp05CWrRlI/AAAAAAAABbU/UykapOh3ZEY/s320/photo%2B1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Anyway so, cut that out. I hate single layer cutting -_-<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HGKqN4qUu4I/Vkp1LmWXCGI/AAAAAAAABbc/7UoRW3oH-lc/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HGKqN4qUu4I/Vkp1LmWXCGI/AAAAAAAABbc/7UoRW3oH-lc/s320/photo%2B2.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
I've read in several blogs lately that things with bias cuts should be hung up for 24 to see how they'll stretch out, which I'd never heard of but makes sense. So did that and turned towards my kitchen!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R9TfQuad4kI/Vkp2Aa7F6bI/AAAAAAAABbk/CmZUIJFo5yk/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R9TfQuad4kI/Vkp2Aa7F6bI/AAAAAAAABbk/CmZUIJFo5yk/s320/photo%2B2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
For the least year I just... keep adding swatches. And mixing paints together trying to find juuuust the right shade. But since it's been a whole year now I finally just went "Okay, I <i>like</i> that colour and can always repaint it later, anything is better than this beige grossness!"<br />
<br />
So I've been sanding walls bit by bit.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uWcYOOUxt-8/Vkp2jOKOgTI/AAAAAAAABbs/bO-gZKBc90k/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uWcYOOUxt-8/Vkp2jOKOgTI/AAAAAAAABbs/bO-gZKBc90k/s320/photo%2B3.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
Also! LOOK HOW GROSS.<br />
The previous owners were paint sloppy and caulk happy. If it's not chipping away at layers and layers of drips, it's trying to remove absolutely terribly applied caulk.<br />
<br />
Ugh.<br />
<br />
To take a break I started cleaning this loveliness up, from where the water softner was dropped down the stairs (doesn't appear damaged at least, but it did make a big mess). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AqoCLJtn-rk/Vkp3P0x4mTI/AAAAAAAABb4/-TQUIrHUAug/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AqoCLJtn-rk/Vkp3P0x4mTI/AAAAAAAABb4/-TQUIrHUAug/s320/photo%2B4.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
Really not very many stairs, but going back and forth on them was a work out!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--nnv1cufk4o/Vkp3ocbUv9I/AAAAAAAABcA/nvatQWap3EM/s1600/photo%2B5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--nnv1cufk4o/Vkp3ocbUv9I/AAAAAAAABcA/nvatQWap3EM/s320/photo%2B5.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
'Cause I was using that dustpan there. And that stuff they put in it... salt? It's heavy.<br />
<br />
Anyway so, unpicked the sleeve of the coat and the shoulder seams and started pinning the flannel in.<br />
Since I layer a lot, it's not really meant to be tailored, it's got to have the room under it. So I just cut the pattern as is, thinking I'd made no adjustments.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YVSzwVCNyaQ/Vkp4c7DyoPI/AAAAAAAABcI/dhZSBPL2pb0/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YVSzwVCNyaQ/Vkp4c7DyoPI/AAAAAAAABcI/dhZSBPL2pb0/s320/photo%2B4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Looks good right?<br />
<br />
Well I HAD made an adjustment, one I should have realized, 'cause I do this with everything!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5_-gFpOkpmU/Vkp4sjkbgBI/AAAAAAAABcU/KFYYTWmsY28/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5_-gFpOkpmU/Vkp4sjkbgBI/AAAAAAAABcU/KFYYTWmsY28/s320/photo%2B3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The all important boob removing adjustment XD<br />
Right so, still working away on that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sUg7xh0TN-k/Vkp4-jkKHhI/AAAAAAAABcc/bSCWIBvUAvk/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sUg7xh0TN-k/Vkp4-jkKHhI/AAAAAAAABcc/bSCWIBvUAvk/s320/photo%2B2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Primed half the kitchen though! That was exciting. Should have done this way back, and then picked the colour from there, 'cause this looks waaaaay better already.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-H2K_OVmdeDY/Vkp5RKsrFWI/AAAAAAAABck/7p-REibMMkY/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-H2K_OVmdeDY/Vkp5RKsrFWI/AAAAAAAABck/7p-REibMMkY/s320/photo%2B4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Lastly, today's tea. I'm missing Tsukuba and thinking a trip to Japan is in order soon!</div>

I just planted more a few weeks ago, I didn't realize they can be sort of a year round crop here. So, excited for that.<br />

These are some of the knits, from when E & I went a little crazy at the red tag table at Joann. These are the ones we split, I took a picture to help me plot what to do with them. Gonna try to be a little more creative than 20 Jasper shirts, but we'll see 8D<br />

During the CA Quilt Rush (my first!) at the <a href="http://www.sewsoshop.com/">Sew So Shop</a> in Yuba City my gramma got me this kit, it's the <a href="http://www.katicupcake.bigcartel.com/product/the-little-my-favorite-bag">Kati Cupcake "The Little My Favorite Bag"</a> pattern. This is before I put the grommets on, since I wanted to see if later I'd want to make another one without grommets.<br />

New hair! I tried to do some coordinating makeup for it. The top left pic was taken in a different room, with yellowy lighting, so I could try to get the back of my head with a mirror. The others are more true to life.<br />

Inspired by some blog reading, I pulled this out to hopefully finally finish, 5 years later!<br />
I would do a lot differently now, but I think it's good enough to finish.<br />

Realized it's been a bit since a posted! Part of the fault is I started using instagram in... August I think and so my random pics go there and I forget to put them here. Also I still haven't done anything about my camera :/ I know that it's me not wanting to face if all those pics really are gone ;_; But... I really should find out.<br />
<br />
Anyway, so I tend to take random housey pics on my ipad mini anyway. So here's some pics from September! I'll do October in another post.<br />
<br />

This was probably one of my last batch of refrigerator pickles, my cucumbers fiiiinally gave up the ghost a few weeks ago (no joke, I must have gotten hundreds from those plants!) and I pulled them up and planted chard, beets, and carrots there.<br />
<br />
Lots more after the break! <br />

Okay maybe this was one of my last cucumber harvests.. there's only like 4 beets on top there, the whole bowl is full of cucumbers 8D<br />

This was my first eggplant! My previous renter had planted this eggplant, two zucchinis, and some tomatoes. The tomatoes never were very happy there... anyway, when she moved out I got the plants (of course, not like I'm going to yank them up!).<br />

Bought my first print at home pattern, and my first indie pattern, in Sept!<br />
I recently started following <a href="http://www.handmadebycarolyn.com/">Handmade By Carolyn</a>, and a few other clothing sewing blogs, and have been really inspired to make more real clothes. In early Sept <a href="http://www.handmadebycarolyn.com/2015/09/snuggly-chocolate-y-ensemble.html">she posted this "snuggly chocolatey ensemble"</a> that she made with <a href="https://www.paprikapatterns.com/shop/jasper-sweaterdress/">Paprika Patterns jasper sweaterdress</a> pattern. Instalove! Pretty sure I bought it that same day and taped it together that weekend.<br />

<br />
Got a whole bunch of square containers from my grandparents, those big nut containers from Costco, and removed the labels and spray painted the lids silver. Eventually I'll put labels on them, but there are so many cute (and free, yay!) pantry labels on the blogosphere I don't know which ones yet. Then a jar of pickling liquid when I made too much, then my stash of pickles, then beets, then the delicious jams <a href="http://dorisaurus.com/">Doris</a> made.<br />
<br />

Put art up! I've only been here 10 months! This is in my kitchen and by Lorraine Yee.<br />

My eggplant is soooo happy. You can't tell here, it's covered in cute little eggies. I only tried like 20 times to get an eggplant to grow, this is the only one that survived. But it's so happy I can't keep up with it. I should look up if you can can eggplant... <br />

Okay I think THIS really is the last of my cucumbers.<br />
Well. I may have gotten one or two right before I pulled them, but I don't think I have a picture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fd7qlf_vfKM/VifNCF9u9EI/AAAAAAAABYw/pL4TInUXgQ8/s1600/photo%2B2%2B%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fd7qlf_vfKM/VifNCF9u9EI/AAAAAAAABYw/pL4TInUXgQ8/s320/photo%2B2%2B%25285%2529.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
Finished Jasper Sweater! I made mine more of a ... Jasper teeshirt. I was using a flimsier knit than the pattern called for, so omitted the pockets. I also serged the whole thing together (yay for quick projects!) and took it in slightly so it'd fit more teeshirt like. The buckle at the collar came from some old boots 8D;;<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WLwds66Uxz4/VifNTE4G7kI/AAAAAAAABY8/v63tSXYtNK0/s1600/photo%2B1%2B%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WLwds66Uxz4/VifNTE4G7kI/AAAAAAAABY8/v63tSXYtNK0/s320/photo%2B1%2B%25285%2529.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
For the cuffs and waist band I only used a 1/4" SA, which I say more for my reference since I will be using this pattern again, and the sleeves are just a tad too short for me if I use the 5/8" SA (But as I say this, I realize I didn't really READ the pattern, just put it together, so perhaps that's how it should be). Actually I may lengthen them anyway...<br />
<br />
I think that's it for Sept! </div>

Man I've been meaning to post these for <i>ages</i>. But for various reasons never got around to it.<br />
Anyway! Last year I was thinking, really four Regency dress is a bit much when I have two more planned, so I decided to sell my first one.<br />
Doris was awesome and did a photoshoot for me so I'd have lovely photos to use for etsy. It sold, right when I was getting ready to post it and signal boost, but the pictures turned out so nice I wanted to post them anyway!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZAw7SPTdvmw/VhiEWWqZSII/AAAAAAAABVQ/XXBP3QdD9sE/s1600/IMG_0007_edited.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZAw7SPTdvmw/VhiEWWqZSII/AAAAAAAABVQ/XXBP3QdD9sE/s320/IMG_0007_edited.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
We shot at Gamble Gardens in Palo Alto, and my sister <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Elizabethshairkata">Elizabeth</a> did my wig and makeup so that Doris could take some good shots for her portfolio.<br />
<br />
More after the cut!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wHmxMixooAk/VhiFdDZCiUI/AAAAAAAABVY/zt8XJrAnkc0/s1600/IMG_9829_edited.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wHmxMixooAk/VhiFdDZCiUI/AAAAAAAABVY/zt8XJrAnkc0/s320/IMG_9829_edited.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
This was my first regency, and it was made using Simplicity pattern 4055 heavily modified.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qL3EbeTD0UU/VhiF-DujKaI/AAAAAAAABVg/OP6vDw4w1SM/s1600/IMG_9839.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qL3EbeTD0UU/VhiF-DujKaI/AAAAAAAABVg/OP6vDw4w1SM/s320/IMG_9839.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
I moved the shoulder and side seams way back, for a proper regency back (my favourite bit!).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iJ2R8FwQBwI/VhiHVORZqqI/AAAAAAAABV0/iC0AoQbNbdM/s1600/IMG_9898_edited.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iJ2R8FwQBwI/VhiHVORZqqI/AAAAAAAABV0/iC0AoQbNbdM/s320/IMG_9898_edited.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
I also added a bit extra to the front, for more gathering. I'm not sure it really worked with this fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-euozt3BepVU/VhiG7b5jy5I/AAAAAAAABVw/iyLdyIMMZIE/s1600/IMG_9854.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-euozt3BepVU/VhiG7b5jy5I/AAAAAAAABVw/iyLdyIMMZIE/s320/IMG_9854.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
Speaking of the fabric! All the green is old sheets, and the eyelet was gifted me by my gramma during a stash purge.<br />
Any white underlayer is probably sheets as well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ep49u4u5TCE/VhiINZ3C1JI/AAAAAAAABWA/ux-o29Qhe6A/s1600/IMG_9879.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ep49u4u5TCE/VhiINZ3C1JI/AAAAAAAABWA/ux-o29Qhe6A/s320/IMG_9879.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
When I originally made it, the white border at the bottom of the eyelet was sheets as well, but I didn't notice until I wore it in the sun that it was actually offwhite. So before I sold it I replaced it with some light weight bleached muslin. Redoing all the tucks was a pain -_-<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VjsBDDHP_lo/VhiJPB9GFqI/AAAAAAAABWI/si1QCrfPlek/s1600/IMG_9807.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VjsBDDHP_lo/VhiJPB9GFqI/AAAAAAAABWI/si1QCrfPlek/s320/IMG_9807.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
I asked my sister for some natural looking make up, but... I think it looks sort of heavy and tired 8D;;<br />
Or maybe I'm just showing my age ;_____;<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FA6xhtWkAog/VhiLEVZv0WI/AAAAAAAABWY/CT39Gb8qKvU/s1600/IMG_9889.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FA6xhtWkAog/VhiLEVZv0WI/AAAAAAAABWY/CT39Gb8qKvU/s320/IMG_9889.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
The photos she took made the dress look so good, I almost reconsidered selling it!<br />
But I'm glad I did, because now I feel less guilty about making more 8D;; Though I realize, I still haven't taken any pictures of the dress that replaced this one! Perhaps another visit to Gamble Gardens is in order... 8D</div>

Whoohoo, finished one!<br />
I've been so far behind this feels like a huge victory XD<br />
It wasn't what I meant to do, and the whole thing took me maybe 20 minutes, but, it fulfills the challenge so I'll take it.<br />
<br />
Some time ago some friends bought me this teeshirt:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-twMgnJlAIH8/VgwRHXpOiZI/AAAAAAAABTM/6jatmfG8GQA/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-twMgnJlAIH8/VgwRHXpOiZI/AAAAAAAABTM/6jatmfG8GQA/s320/photo%2B2.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It's a little hard to tell because of the lighting but... it's tan. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I appreciated the thought, 'cause as they well knew I love Magneto. But I don't care for brown. The only brown thing in my wardrobe is my jedi cloak, and that's only allowed because... jedi cloak.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
So I folded it up and put it aside until I could decide what to do with it. My original thought was to make a red backpack with purple trim and cut out the picture and applique it to it. But when I got it out earlier this month along with a bunch of other teeshirts I'd set aside to refashion (funnily, I was actually looking for a different shirt from the same friends in particular) the print was much larger than I'd remembered. Aaaaand I decided I just didn't like it enough to go through all the effort of making a cute backpack.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Well! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I recently started following <a href="http://sewwhatsnew.co.uk/">Matt from the Great British Sewing Bee at Sew What's New</a> (if you haven't watched that show, you should, it's full of really lovely, nice, creative people. I'm particularly fond of the history bits, and Patrick), and he posted <a href="http://sewwhatsnew.co.uk/make/alterations/t-shirt-upcycle-make-your-own-t-shirt-bag/">a tee shirt refashion</a> just this month.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I've seen these tee shirt bags before, but his tutorial is a nice clear one and I hadn't thought of zigzagging the edges to prevent overstretching.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Anyway, so I did that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XngC82mfHS0/VgwX8DmzwHI/AAAAAAAABTg/XGltUjsVHzU/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XngC82mfHS0/VgwX8DmzwHI/AAAAAAAABTg/XGltUjsVHzU/s320/photo%2B1.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
Challenge #8, Something Geek Inspired, done!<br />
Also it's a refashion, so technically Challenge #6 done also 8D <br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And bonus, yesterday's harvest:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FwXn5_HyVUM/VgwYIlABm1I/AAAAAAAABTo/B-b81cXABQg/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FwXn5_HyVUM/VgwYIlABm1I/AAAAAAAABTo/B-b81cXABQg/s320/photo.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

So I've been pretty scatter brained lately (uuuuh... the last two years...) and making stupid mistakes in my sewing, just from not paying attention. I've found that running a mental commentary as if I were making a tutorial really helps me stay focused. So when I was making this, I thought why not just actually make it a tutorial?<br />
Plus sometimes it helps to try to figure out how to put things into words rather than vague hand gestures.<br />
So any C&C would be welcome! <br />
<br />
My gramma asked me to make her a new insulated water bottle holder, she had this one she'd bought that either was for her old water bottle or she'd just bought it not knowing if it'd fit or... something. I'm really not sure. Point is it didn't fit the water bottle she uses now.<br />
Fortunately, we have the same water bottle! <a href="http://www.target.com/p/contigo-autospout-addison-water-bottle-32-oz/-/A-14762417#prodSlot=medium_1_8&term=contigo+32+water+bottle">This one from Target</a> (coincidentally, we even bought the same colour). So I measured the base and the height and made a mockup for my own water bottle. I say mockup, what I mean is I just went for it 8D;; And made some adjustments to her's.<br />
<br />
Anyway! You will need:<br />
- Two 7.5" x 22" pieces of fabric (I'm using quilting cotton scraps) for lining and shell<br />
- One 7.5" x 22" insulation piece (I just have whatever they had at the quilt store, I think it's Insul-Bright)<br />
- Two 2" x 8.25" pieces of fabric for the cording channel<br />
- Two 2" x 5" pieces of fabric for the tabs<br />
- Two 1" x 5" pieces of interfacing for the tabs <br />
- Two 16" pieces of cording<br />
<br />
OPTIONAL:<br />
- One 7.5" x 9.5" "Base," if using directional fabric like I did cut two 7.5" x 5" pieces<br />
<br />
Seam allowance is .25" unless otherwise stated. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vvXXzZefQbA/VfnYr7pTLMI/AAAAAAAABOU/ZszijewnG_U/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vvXXzZefQbA/VfnYr7pTLMI/AAAAAAAABOU/ZszijewnG_U/s320/photo%2B1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Continued after the break!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
So I did my best to make this reversible, but really... I probably won't reverse it and neither will my gramma. Take the piece of fabric you like better, or you think will be on the outside the most, and pin it all around to the insulation.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d-crGP1502c/VfnaS9qEvoI/AAAAAAAABOs/LDmOwSaIjEc/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d-crGP1502c/VfnaS9qEvoI/AAAAAAAABOs/LDmOwSaIjEc/s320/photo%2B3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Sew all the way around the edges, you can just baste it. Make sure you're stitching inside your .25" seam allowance.<br />
And while you're at it, sew you're two base pieces together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TGzPXTKSeRI/VfnaST8HDHI/AAAAAAAABOo/zKoFOBoH0Xo/s1600/photo%2B5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TGzPXTKSeRI/VfnaST8HDHI/AAAAAAAABOo/zKoFOBoH0Xo/s320/photo%2B5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Aw pretty.<br />
Press your shiny new seam flat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QHyDWk4a3tU/VfnbZDunyOI/AAAAAAAABO0/60f7weIcypk/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QHyDWk4a3tU/VfnbZDunyOI/AAAAAAAABO0/60f7weIcypk/s320/photo%2B1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then as long as you're ironing, press a .25" hem on both sides. I just sort of eyeball this, it's not a strict .25".<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0SUOmDl-MR0/VfnbaHjSLlI/AAAAAAAABO4/5Lptne-vdIs/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0SUOmDl-MR0/VfnbaHjSLlI/AAAAAAAABO4/5Lptne-vdIs/s320/photo%2B2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
If you didn't do a center seam, mark your center with some pins.<br />
<br />
Mark the center of your insulated piece, I just stick a pin in both sides, I'm not sure you can really see that here.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tKx_ZeG95EU/Vfnba2EWbpI/AAAAAAAABPI/TKtrd0S14Sw/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tKx_ZeG95EU/Vfnba2EWbpI/AAAAAAAABPI/TKtrd0S14Sw/s320/photo%2B3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
From there lay your base piece over it, matching centers.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zz0UlmMmkEg/VfnbcrWR7LI/AAAAAAAABPU/N8JbRW1bFUs/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zz0UlmMmkEg/VfnbcrWR7LI/AAAAAAAABPU/N8JbRW1bFUs/s320/photo%2B4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Pin that down, then stitch it down close o the edge. Non basting stitch here, 'cause you'll see it!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yiEFkNHLcAw/VfnbdWwNTQI/AAAAAAAABPY/3R5-Rn3BCbs/s1600/photo%2B5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yiEFkNHLcAw/VfnbdWwNTQI/AAAAAAAABPY/3R5-Rn3BCbs/s320/photo%2B5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Great!<br />
Now fold that sucker in half, short sides to short sides, and stitch up your long sides.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Bjb1CVzlmUI/VfndGw1SZTI/AAAAAAAABPg/z4uBBsEBUaQ/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Bjb1CVzlmUI/VfndGw1SZTI/AAAAAAAABPg/z4uBBsEBUaQ/s320/photo%2B1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Do the same to your liner piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZBd1qZH2Y3U/VfndRqXHHuI/AAAAAAAABPo/CP_DdK5qLwA/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZBd1qZH2Y3U/VfndRqXHHuI/AAAAAAAABPo/CP_DdK5qLwA/s320/photo%2B2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Once those side seams are sewn, pinch the corners flat, measuring 1.5" from the point:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cB0uxdjYS5M/Vfndp10bBoI/AAAAAAAABPw/uTKsggXOHRc/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cB0uxdjYS5M/Vfndp10bBoI/AAAAAAAABPw/uTKsggXOHRc/s320/photo%2B4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Mark that with pins or a pen, I feel like it's easy enough with pins, but then my line probably isn't super straight.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1NG8kf5Ey2c/Vfnd0JJY_sI/AAAAAAAABP8/RLQ5fV68S-0/s1600/photo%2B5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1NG8kf5Ey2c/Vfnd0JJY_sI/AAAAAAAABP8/RLQ5fV68S-0/s320/photo%2B5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Stitch across that corner, doing the same to the other corner and both corners of your liner.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d1XEkXqZcPA/VfneN_Q2MiI/AAAAAAAABQE/HJY-4y4e-rU/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d1XEkXqZcPA/VfneN_Q2MiI/AAAAAAAABQE/HJY-4y4e-rU/s320/photo%2B1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Awesome, it's a bag!<br />
Snip off all four of those corner triangles approximately .25" from the seam.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BQXhCkHmzNc/VfneepwvodI/AAAAAAAABQM/E4aYRiLMzCg/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BQXhCkHmzNc/VfneepwvodI/AAAAAAAABQM/E4aYRiLMzCg/s320/photo%2B2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now turn your attention to the tabs!<br />
Iron a piece of 1x5" piece of interfacing to the center of your tab fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--10hdPOBax8/VfnffVTpmZI/AAAAAAAABQY/IxdLdjq1l-s/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--10hdPOBax8/VfnffVTpmZI/AAAAAAAABQY/IxdLdjq1l-s/s320/photo%2B3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Nevermind how uneven mine is, I just used scrap interfacing 8D;;<br />
Next iron that in half long wise, wrong sides together.<br />
Once you have that center crease, iron your raw edges to it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6WNjeWcnZkQ/Vfnf2oWtjvI/AAAAAAAABQg/Etjmusp24TM/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6WNjeWcnZkQ/Vfnf2oWtjvI/AAAAAAAABQg/Etjmusp24TM/s320/photo%2B4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I had to hold it shut for the photo because since I didn't have an exact cut piece of interfacing it didn't want to stay whoops.<br />
Now iron it in half again, so the raw edges are enclosed. Pin that up for stitching!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-51TXl7rHPf0/VfngQIQEpSI/AAAAAAAABQo/Gjvq_efYb9c/s1600/photo%2B5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-51TXl7rHPf0/VfngQIQEpSI/AAAAAAAABQo/Gjvq_efYb9c/s320/photo%2B5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Man that ironing board cover is dirty....<br />
As long as your ironing though!<br />
Grab your liner and iron a .25" hem in all around the opening.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Aauf2YDCWw/VfnghOeRukI/AAAAAAAABQw/RLkweY3adaA/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Aauf2YDCWw/VfnghOeRukI/AAAAAAAABQw/RLkweY3adaA/s320/photo%2B1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And take your channel pieces and iron in a tiny rolled hem on the short sides.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hDHGiPjv8Hw/VfngtilyALI/AAAAAAAABQ8/zQDkJRtYo5w/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hDHGiPjv8Hw/VfngtilyALI/AAAAAAAABQ8/zQDkJRtYo5w/s320/photo%2B2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Take your channel and tab pieces to the sewing machine!<br />
Stitch the hem into the channel pieces, and stitch down both sides of your tab pieces.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Cvw7BWd6ldk/VfnhDST65GI/AAAAAAAABRE/40deu2AY-OM/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Cvw7BWd6ldk/VfnhDST65GI/AAAAAAAABRE/40deu2AY-OM/s320/photo%2B3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Now fold your tabs in half and just pin them for now. Do the same with the channel pieces, pinning the long side.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VXev2yQMPlo/VfnhSMwrvHI/AAAAAAAABRM/OVn1E1K6x30/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VXev2yQMPlo/VfnhSMwrvHI/AAAAAAAABRM/OVn1E1K6x30/s320/photo%2B4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Okay, take your insulated piece and flip it right side out.<br />
Pin the tab pieces at the two side seams, and the channel pieces over that, with the openings at the side seams.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a1n_gsf26MA/VfnhmPocG1I/AAAAAAAABRU/7HxVjXvHk3o/s1600/photo%2B5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a1n_gsf26MA/VfnhmPocG1I/AAAAAAAABRU/7HxVjXvHk3o/s320/photo%2B5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Stitch all the way around that opening, you may want to go over the tab bits a few times.<br />
Press the channel/tabs up and drop your lining in.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FKpOXvZ4g6o/Vfnh6gJMYmI/AAAAAAAABRc/8m7t-54rad4/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FKpOXvZ4g6o/Vfnh6gJMYmI/AAAAAAAABRc/8m7t-54rad4/s320/photo%2B1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Pin the lining in all the way around, matching the ironed edge to your stitching line, or just over it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wBlfq3LEPwU/VfniG7OZ4zI/AAAAAAAABRk/3mMdv1B7cIM/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wBlfq3LEPwU/VfniG7OZ4zI/AAAAAAAABRk/3mMdv1B7cIM/s320/photo%2B2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
From the outside, top stitch just under the seam.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p5sIRv1BucY/VfniTWKAJTI/AAAAAAAABRs/usgCXCBaOvk/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p5sIRv1BucY/VfniTWKAJTI/AAAAAAAABRs/usgCXCBaOvk/s320/photo%2B3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
You should be able to see the pins well enough to take them out as you sew, but just in case, I sewed mine holding it like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tkiNKbMS8GA/Vfnid25NEtI/AAAAAAAABR0/cIWMcSzUD84/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tkiNKbMS8GA/Vfnid25NEtI/AAAAAAAABR0/cIWMcSzUD84/s320/photo%2B4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Run your cording through the channels aaaaand, you're done!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7yuP-I2KEfU/VfnirmxGREI/AAAAAAAABR8/DShdnbj0Q3Y/s1600/photo%2B5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7yuP-I2KEfU/VfnirmxGREI/AAAAAAAABR8/DShdnbj0Q3Y/s320/photo%2B5.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5i-dR0nulJs/Vfni3BmAWdI/AAAAAAAABSM/5E7G5yHh1rQ/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5i-dR0nulJs/Vfni3BmAWdI/AAAAAAAABSM/5E7G5yHh1rQ/s320/photo%2B3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Here's her holder with mine. Idk why it looks taller, it's exactly the same size.<br />
Anyway, after making mine I decided that I wasn't sure how I liked the solid colour, so I added the base to my gramma's.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ov79DIHKfVE/Vfni1ZJfOGI/AAAAAAAABSE/t1-NxjRrD1s/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ov79DIHKfVE/Vfni1ZJfOGI/AAAAAAAABSE/t1-NxjRrD1s/s320/photo%2B4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Fully lined! And hypothetically reversible.<br />

The tabs are so you can hook a carabiner on (what I intend to do) or ad a removable strap (what I plan to make later for my gramma, but don't have the hardware for right now).</div>

Augh, in my mind it was "Something Quilted" and I was already sad because I <i>didn't</i> finish my quilt for the WIP challenge (truth be told, I hardly touched it) and I've been thinking of it for like a week now. While I'm doing dishes, while I'm gardening... while I'm at work.... wondering what I could possibly quilt that's not actually my quilt.<br />
<br />
I even thought about quilting my sister's quilt! Which she started last month, and is already at the quilting stage. She's 12 years younger than me, so it's making me feel like a slacker!<br />
<br />
But today... I actually looked at the chart. "Something Quilted" is for December!<br />
September is "Geek Inspired."<br />
<br />
Which actually might be more challenging 'cause where do I even start? I have SO MANY "geek" sewing plans.<br />
<br />
Technically, my <a href="http://make-it-sew.blogspot.com/2015/03/sewalong-challenge-2-complete.html">Game of Thrones Messenger Bag</a> fulfills this challenge (and July's refashion challenge!) but, new things!<br />
<br />
But in the bags vein, I have several SDCC bags I'd like to refashion, I don't have pics of all of them but here are two I remember:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://static03.mediaite.com/themarysue/uploads/gallery/sdcc-wb-bags-with-capes/teen-titans-go-comic-con-2013-bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://static03.mediaite.com/themarysue/uploads/gallery/sdcc-wb-bags-with-capes/teen-titans-go-comic-con-2013-bag.jpg" height="320" width="270" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://sdccblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/GOTHAM-Comic-Con-2014-Bag-906x1024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://sdccblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/GOTHAM-Comic-Con-2014-Bag-906x1024.jpg" height="320" width="283" /></a></div>
These bags are huge and refashion really nicely.<br />
<br />
I'd also like to inject some more general geek into my wardrobe, but we'll see!</div>
Mihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15281457004935508990noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4722153016888385863.post-61452901370844767242015-08-31T12:47:00.001-07:002017-03-28T16:01:04.147-07:00Observations from first underwater shoot!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
So!<br />
<br />
Doris got some underwater camera gear a bit ago, she's rented the gear before and done a few shoots, <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/projectdorisphotography">you can see them here</a>.<br />
<br />
For the preggers one I did do some minimal assisting, so I *thought* I was reasonably familiar with the whole underwater thing.<br />
<br />
Lemme tell you it is WAY different being in front of the camera.<br />
<br />
Behind the camera, you're pretty much focused on one thing: getting the shot. Not that it isn't hard, you have to keep yourself down in the water and there are other water things to struggle with.<br />
<br />
<a data-context="false" data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="false" data-header="false" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/20957244976/in/album-72157657514692668/" title="IMG_1874"><img alt="IMG_1874" height="333" src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/669/20957244976_89292c9d26.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
<br />
So this "shoot" was a "let's play with your equipment!" test.<br />
<br />
We wanted to test how an umbrella maneuvers in the water, and how a night time shoot would look.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
First we started in the afternoon, I drove past the pool on my way home from work (left early whoooo) and it was empty, but by the time we started (around 4 I'd say) kids were coming after school and parents were getting off work, etc. So it got rather crowded and we weren't able to play much. Also with so many people we thought we shouldn't do anything too... weird? And should abide by rules.<br />
<br />
So I started out wearing heels and with my hair down, but had to tie the hair back, and wasn't sure about shoes in the pool so took them off.<br />
<br />
That photo is me trying to work out the best way to "sink" for a photo.<br />
<br />
<a data-context="false" data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="false" data-header="false" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/20796536359/in/album-72157657514692668/" title="IMG_1945"><img alt="IMG_1945" height="500" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5655/20796536359_14dce67a24.jpg" width="333" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
<br />
You can see a bit of my hair poking out, I'd forgotten a wig cap, but more on that later.<br />
The water in the afternoon is a bit... murkier than when we'd previously gone in the morning. We're not sure if this is a quality of light/position of the sun thing, or to do with the chlorine since we went in the middle of December for those pregger pics.<br />
<br />
Since it got too crowded we went back to my parent's (this is a pool they're a member of) place and ate yummy homemade bread and drank tea.<br />
<br />
From the first round lessons learned:<br />
<br />
- Wigs need to be really secured, the drag is really strong with any sort of forward movement. <br />
- If wearing a dress it's easier to sort of dive and then turn in the water than it is to press the dress back down from your armpits.<br />
- Only way to really sink is to release all your air and then not panic!<br />
- My expression was the *last* thing I was thinking about really, there's so many things to think about! Air bubbles in the nose, hair in the face, outfit in the aforementioned armpits, low enough in the water, wait pose what pose? And so on.<br />
- Laughing underwater ruins the shot.<br />
<br />
So then we went back at 8pm:<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-context="false" data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="false" data-header="false" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/20973420942/in/album-72157657514692668/" title="IMG_1966"><img alt="IMG_1966" height="500" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5720/20973420942_c4413aa318.jpg" width="333" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
<br />
This cute dress Doris made!<br />
<br />
When we went back I asked my sister to put my hair in two french braids to secure the wig to.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-context="false" data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="false" data-header="false" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/20794565800/in/album-72157657514692668/" title="IMG_2027"><img alt="IMG_2027" height="500" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5768/20794565800_7454ae8aef.jpg" width="333" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
<br />
Only two of the lights in the pool worked, my suspicion is since the "season" ends next weekend they're not bothering to change the lights.<br />
<br />
This was a real learning experience with figuring out how close I need to be to the light, and how close Doris needs to be to the light, and how close to me.<br />
<br />
<a data-context="false" data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="false" data-header="false" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/20972955532/in/album-72157657514692668/" title="IMG_2018"><img alt="IMG_2018" height="333" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5664/20972955532_b842dbc338.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
<br />
I think this is my favourite!<br />
<br />
I finally mastered the sinking to the bottom (when standing anyway) and was actually standing on the bottom here (8ft depth).<br />
<br />
But also this series of shots was really scary, because at night the depth perception is REALLY skewed. It's already skewed being underwater, add the night, and the light, it's really hard to tell. And it felt like I was much closer to the surface than I was, so after staying at the bottom as long as I could with no air it felt like forever to get back up and every time was like "OMG SURFACE." Especially if I didn't get all the way down to have a good contact with the bottom to propel myself up.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-context="false" data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="false" data-header="false" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/20797482669/in/album-72157657514692668/" title="IMG_1993"><img alt="IMG_1993" height="333" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5649/20797482669_61f7894ed6.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
<br />
This shot was me trying to get to a "hovering" position, sinking but not too far. Harder than it sounds!<br />
<br />
<a data-context="false" data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="false" data-header="false" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/20989883271/in/album-72157657514692668/" title="IMG_2039"><img alt="IMG_2039" height="333" src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/708/20989883271_02d798c03d.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
<br />
Umbrella!<br />
<br />
I was trying to flop upside down. It didn't work.<br />
<br />
<a data-context="false" data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="false" data-header="false" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/20956005406/in/album-72157657514692668/" title="IMG_2079"><img alt="IMG_2079" height="333" src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/662/20956005406_8fe1f4060e.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
<br />
Trying to sit in the umbrella.<br />
<br />
Again, expression is like the last thing on my mind!<br />
<br />
<a data-context="false" data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="false" data-header="false" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/20982089175/in/album-72157657514692668/" title="IMG_2096"><img alt="IMG_2096" height="333" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5799/20982089175_ac570a415a.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
<br />
You can see here my wig is lifting again.<br />
<br />
Next time I'll try three french braids, one down the center. The middle is where the pull is the strongest for sure. It's very distracting!<br />
<br />
<a data-context="false" data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="false" data-header="false" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/20794875220/in/album-72157657514692668/" title="IMG_1987"><img alt="IMG_1987" height="500" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5740/20794875220_7d759bd3f1.jpg" width="333" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
<br />
In conclusion:<br />
<br />
- I'd say it took me a good half hour to get used to sinking (even then, it's hard) so that needs to be factored into time management.<br />
- Wig secure-ment is really important!<br />
<br />
I'm sure there's more, but actually that's all I can think of at the moment, as a subject anyway.
The rest of her photos from the test are <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dorisaurus/albums/72157657514692668">here</a>.

I miss posting!<br />
I still haven't tried to recover all those photos :/ I need to figure out a dedicated time to try, which is the real problem.<br />
<br />
In the meantime, pictures I took on my ipad mini!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_DXlHnlmZeg/VdyJqIk70LI/AAAAAAAABKQ/iezsAVNie-g/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_DXlHnlmZeg/VdyJqIk70LI/AAAAAAAABKQ/iezsAVNie-g/s320/photo%2B1.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
That's the next pic I have unfortunately. The paper taped on the front was so <a href="http://confused-kitty.com/">AJ</a> could draw roughly where his weird bone chest piece goes and the size on me.<br />
She also drew the approximate lines on the muslin sleeve, but then we both decided that sleeve head shape wasn't right. So I ended up using sleeve from Simplicity 2341 afterall, I just cut it in it's largest size for a bit more fullness at the head.<br />
<br />
More after the break!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6RdsiaaDJ-s/VdyM0s48slI/AAAAAAAABKg/RQvogS3fidc/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6RdsiaaDJ-s/VdyM0s48slI/AAAAAAAABKg/RQvogS3fidc/s320/photo%2B2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Because all the stretch velvet is backed with denim, I didn't want to have all the layers in the armpit and did more muslins to figure out my layering.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1WEKnevtK9Q/VdyNG67Z3wI/AAAAAAAABKo/QjAE_iWatH8/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1WEKnevtK9Q/VdyNG67Z3wI/AAAAAAAABKo/QjAE_iWatH8/s320/photo%2B3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I'm not sure why I took this. Maybe to show the curves are slightly different?<br />
Oh wait I remember! Originally I thought the sleeve was a regular sleeve with bias strips making the stripes, but it's actually scale/petal style. So this is the original sleeve, salvaging what I can (so glad I overbought!).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L8P1ojl-v4I/VdyNS7ONI4I/AAAAAAAABKw/iIrMhbh46Bg/s1600/photo%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L8P1ojl-v4I/VdyNS7ONI4I/AAAAAAAABKw/iIrMhbh46Bg/s320/photo%2B4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I cut a regular sleeve out of some plain black I had in my stash, and mounted each layer to that. That little dip there is 'cause this is from the original sleeve.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wBmD6eMXbTE/VdyN19WOLeI/AAAAAAAABK4/W60uaD2AY8g/s1600/photo%2B5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wBmD6eMXbTE/VdyN19WOLeI/AAAAAAAABK4/W60uaD2AY8g/s320/photo%2B5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
You can see the slight S curve here, the top is the front side. Though once it's on, it's hardly noticeable.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bMHcD9uJFiI/VdyOXA7ktJI/AAAAAAAABLA/8s5ZlzH2M6Q/s1600/photo%2B1%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bMHcD9uJFiI/VdyOXA7ktJI/AAAAAAAABLA/8s5ZlzH2M6Q/s320/photo%2B1%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the underside of each piece (except the bottom most). Just in case you saw the underside, I wanted it to be pretty!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cr3jz9Mo0fk/VdyOlXLLFHI/AAAAAAAABLI/j2MXMj0EBZc/s1600/photo%2B2%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cr3jz9Mo0fk/VdyOlXLLFHI/AAAAAAAABLI/j2MXMj0EBZc/s320/photo%2B2%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Getting the vinyl around that S curve was a pain, as such it's not totally even >.< But, since you can't tell once it's on, I guess it doesn't matter!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aWo84HXIuWU/VdyPgxpU-6I/AAAAAAAABLU/iRCmGSK-6Qw/s1600/photo%2B3%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aWo84HXIuWU/VdyPgxpU-6I/AAAAAAAABLU/iRCmGSK-6Qw/s320/photo%2B3%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Yessss, one side done!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LMc_AH57gsg/VdyRl-jiOSI/AAAAAAAABLo/y5lFQ95wh3U/s1600/photo%2B4%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LMc_AH57gsg/VdyRl-jiOSI/AAAAAAAABLo/y5lFQ95wh3U/s320/photo%2B4%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Sewn up (ahaha, this is my instagram pic)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N3LDEIlKBjM/VdyRuSSaVjI/AAAAAAAABLw/pWCDgSV4GmY/s1600/photo%2B5%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N3LDEIlKBjM/VdyRuSSaVjI/AAAAAAAABLw/pWCDgSV4GmY/s320/photo%2B5%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And attached to the jacket!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kl_EBmRDItM/VdyR1sViJFI/AAAAAAAABL4/RhRhearQWfU/s1600/photo%2B1%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kl_EBmRDItM/VdyR1sViJFI/AAAAAAAABL4/RhRhearQWfU/s320/photo%2B1%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Plus collar!<br />
I couldn't really pin this shut without marking up the vinyl, hence wrinkles from it falling open.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ylCOvMOuu1g/VdySDpzQHHI/AAAAAAAABME/ji2V_3Zb_WQ/s1600/photo%2B2%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ylCOvMOuu1g/VdySDpzQHHI/AAAAAAAABME/ji2V_3Zb_WQ/s320/photo%2B2%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I made some cuffs. I did them this way because it was the only way I could figure to get the vinyl bias to look right.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d5kyuA3QpRU/VdySSQIVtiI/AAAAAAAABMM/XkImJJgm180/s1600/photo%2B3%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d5kyuA3QpRU/VdySSQIVtiI/AAAAAAAABMM/XkImJJgm180/s320/photo%2B3%25282%2529.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
Then hand tacking the sleeve lining in!<br />
<br />
I sewed all my hook & eyes on during the drive down to Costume College, but didn't get it completely done because the paint I used on the bone chest piece just wasn't drying so I couldn't attach it.<br />
Also! Since I was sewing until the last minute, I didn't have time to do a makeup test D:<br />
So I did this on the fly, and have already identified all the things that need to be fixed for next time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Lovely bathroom lighting.<br />
He's wearing some sort of weird... orangey nude lipstick. I don't have any nude lipstick, so I tried to replicate it with white lipstick and foundation over that. Which worked the first time, then when I touched it up turned out way too white. Oh well.<br />

That "red carpet" was super scary and intimidating! Not doing that again.<br />
But overall pretty pleased with how this Jareth turned out!<br />
Now to finish it and take some decent photos.<br />
<br />
I haven't touched it since CoCo, doing more work on my house! So hopefully some pictures from that coming soon as well (I know everyone missed pictures of my beets, don't lie to me).</div>

Since I've been spectacularly lax about this (okay I have been really busy, but I feel like these things are simple enough I should have been able to get them done), I thought I'd do a quick catch all update with the things I should have made haha.<br />
<br />
Reminder that we put two months for the something vintage challenge (which I skipped), so the numbers don't align w/ the months anymore.<br />
<br />
<b>#5 - June : Something for your Sewing Table</b><br />
<br />
This one is particularly sad that I didn't do anything for, 'cause a pincushion can be really simple. And also because these are the two things I had wanted to do (which I'd still like to do before the year is out):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/ea/1b/76/ea1b761405fd13428a6d81b36e78db13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/ea/1b/76/ea1b761405fd13428a6d81b36e78db13.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
From the <a href="http://icanfindthetime.blogspot.ca/2010/07/sewing-machine-pin-cushion.html">I Can Find the Time</a> blog.<br />
Think it's sad I didn't... find the time to do that?<br />
Here's the other thing:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/6c/fb/fa/6cfbfa3de4c748ab12aff62015264ce5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/6c/fb/fa/6cfbfa3de4c748ab12aff62015264ce5.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I have a kit to make that, minimal effort! It's not that exact kit, but that image is for a <a href="http://www.patternpile.com/sewing-patterns/sew-in-style-thread-catcher-pin-cushion-pdf-pattern/">pattern from Pattern Pile</a>.<br />
<br />
<b>#6 - July: Refashion an Existing Item in Your Wardrobe</b><br />
<br />
I have a piiiiile of clothes just waiting for this. And I have ideas for half of them!<br />
Since it's refashioning, I can't really find pics to show my intention, but you can take my word for it they'll be cool when I get around to it.<br />
<br />
<b>#7 - August: Finish a WIP (Work in Progress)</b><br />
<br />
I reeeeeally wanted this to be my quilt! I've been working on it off and on for over a year now, but in such small chunks it hasn't seemed worth posting about. But I don't feel it's anywhere near close enough to finish in August. So it's actually possible my WIPs will be those challenge #6 items! 'Cause like I said, I have a pile of clothes for just that purpose.<br />
I also have a velvet blazer I started 5 years ago or so, before I really realized the different properties of velvet. And a long jacket I started probably around the same time which is sliiiightly more likely to get finished (since it's further along).<br />
<br />
So we'll see!<br />
Hopefully I'll start taking pictures again soon.<br />
Costume College this weekend, so I've been cramming.<br />
<br /></div>

Soooo, in-between taking pics, literally from one picture to the next, my camera's SD card died. At the Cheesecake Factory of all places! (in my defense, their decor really looked like the Eye of Sauron was watching us eat...)<br />
<br />I take pictures of eeeeeverything, I have such a terrible memory I feel like I have to! So this is kind of a big a deal (and an excellent reminder to me to back up any pictures once a week going forward).<br />
<br />
Before I descend into despondency I need to exhaust all my options for recovery, and sadly I don't really have time for that at the moment.<br />
<br />
So I'm not sure how the posting will go for awhile. You guys are missing out on some great beet pictures, boiled this time! And then pickled!<br />
Also progress pictures of my house and my sewing projects and like 500 pics from Yosemite. </div>

So I'll post about the Sewalong later, hopefully. June completely got away from me, and I suspect July will as well. I DO want to do both those challenges. I'm really going to try to complete all the challenges, just maybe not in the month they were supposed to have been done in.<br />
<br />
Part of the reason July is failing is whoops, <a href="http://129.121.107.232/~costumer/college/">Costume College</a> is in three weeks!<br />
I really waffled on what to make, I'm just not feeling the historical vibe right now. So I wanted something cool, but not too hard to make in a short amount of time, <i>and</i> something I'd been wanting to do. Augh, decisions.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I finally settled on Jareth from Labyrinth, I've wanted to make all his outfits for yeeeears. My absolute favourite is the white outfit he wears at the end, but there definitely wasn't time enough for that. So I decided to do my 2nd favourite, the one I've always thought of as his Escher outfit, but I guess it's usually referred to as his "Within You" outfit since that's what he sings when he wears it.<br />
<br />
This is the photo most available on the internet:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kZZ1nAFkRQs/T9uMt1PY2fI/AAAAAAAATuY/DfK-B4Ru85Q/s1600/labyrinth_movie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="202" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kZZ1nAFkRQs/T9uMt1PY2fI/AAAAAAAATuY/DfK-B4Ru85Q/s1600/labyrinth_movie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Many searches don't get much better!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
So I took a bunch of screencaps from my DVD and ordered the bluray.<br />
<br />
But before I did that I oh so wisely decided to start on the mockup (yes that's right, I cleverly did the mockup before researching. I'm pretty sure my brain has gone on walkabout). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vdoueEgLGcw/VaAKu4MO9zI/AAAAAAAABHo/nIqgO3Vs3Sk/s1600/IMG_8294.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vdoueEgLGcw/VaAKu4MO9zI/AAAAAAAABHo/nIqgO3Vs3Sk/s320/IMG_8294.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I used 2341 for the body, and 1558 for the sleeves (which I still haven't actually tested, but there we are).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://confused-kitty.com/">AJ</a> fit me, I moved some seams over, and she fit me again. Thanks! It looked so nice I thought for sure I'll use this pattern again, so I made a paper pattern before proceeding.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D81hBowq76w/VaALxrntcrI/AAAAAAAABHw/tM4YDzOf_44/s1600/IMG_8295.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D81hBowq76w/VaALxrntcrI/AAAAAAAABHw/tM4YDzOf_44/s320/IMG_8295.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Yay cutting!<br />
The fabric gave me some issue too, because it really looks like a silk velvet to me. And given the deadline, I don't have time to run around trying to find the right shade online when my local stores don't have silk velvets. The one day I was free to run to SF was the Pride Parade, it would have been madness! As my friend pointed out when I asked if she wanted to join me, soooo glad she mentioned that. So instead I got stretch velvet, which is a pain to work with ;_;<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lrchYI4-w1s/VaANGjnDxoI/AAAAAAAABH8/ELSnmINCLYY/s1600/IMG_8296.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lrchYI4-w1s/VaANGjnDxoI/AAAAAAAABH8/ELSnmINCLYY/s320/IMG_8296.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I thought, what a perfect opportunity to talk about flatlining, as I told a few people I would. So I was flatlining the stretch velvet to the muslin mockup, to give stability and body.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lehlvWx7Cew/VaANaHvUPcI/AAAAAAAABIE/Le6fe02UDy4/s1600/IMG_8297.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lehlvWx7Cew/VaANaHvUPcI/AAAAAAAABIE/Le6fe02UDy4/s320/IMG_8297.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Sorry blurry. After I pinned all that (because it's stretchy and flimsy, it needs loads of pins), sewed it around the edge and pinned another panel I realize what am I doing? This is a terrible example of flatlining! This muslin is hardly adding *any* body, these pieces are still way to floppy and soft.<br />
<br />
I just happened to have some denim hanging out waiting to be made into a sleeping bag... bag so I grabbed that instead. Way better.<br />
<br />
Then I took a break for making another jar of pickles.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N8f7z944UU4/VaAOINHSHNI/AAAAAAAABIM/3iwi_Kl2aKU/s1600/IMG_8300.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N8f7z944UU4/VaAOINHSHNI/AAAAAAAABIM/3iwi_Kl2aKU/s320/IMG_8300.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PLXuGKA6TTY/VaAON5sGn-I/AAAAAAAABIU/1o1iJBbVvjk/s1600/IMG_8302.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PLXuGKA6TTY/VaAON5sGn-I/AAAAAAAABIU/1o1iJBbVvjk/s320/IMG_8302.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Mmm... haven't actually tried these yet. But looking forward to it.<br />
<br />
Anyway. So started sewing the back together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dgwo2Eq8U9g/VaAOn8w7WHI/AAAAAAAABIk/1VM0zGv-OM0/s1600/IMG_8305.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dgwo2Eq8U9g/VaAOn8w7WHI/AAAAAAAABIk/1VM0zGv-OM0/s320/IMG_8305.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I don't have a velvet board so I just pinned a scrap to my sleeve roll to try to press it a little. Being stretch velvet... it doesn't really press.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e9PnqU1JqQk/VaAO5gRKqkI/AAAAAAAABIs/IV1p6JgDcwQ/s1600/IMG_8306.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e9PnqU1JqQk/VaAO5gRKqkI/AAAAAAAABIs/IV1p6JgDcwQ/s320/IMG_8306.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
(sorry for these all being a little blurry, tired picture taking)<br />
So I whip stitched the seam allowance to the denim, I've only done the top here 'cause I just wanted to get it to the point where I could put the back fake yoke on.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xInKwBXlmJ4/VaAPT2b7WmI/AAAAAAAABI0/avfTKu4nVCQ/s1600/IMG_8308.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xInKwBXlmJ4/VaAPT2b7WmI/AAAAAAAABI0/avfTKu4nVCQ/s320/IMG_8308.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
SO! That's where it is so far. I'll hopefully get the rest of the seam allowances sewn down while visiting my granparents this weekend.<br />
<br />
Oh and wig!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aVXSPpBZPQg/VaAPm147YuI/AAAAAAAABI8/jZzYXvdz3WQ/s1600/IMG_8285.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aVXSPpBZPQg/VaAPm147YuI/AAAAAAAABI8/jZzYXvdz3WQ/s320/IMG_8285.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I sewed loads of trimmed down wefts into a punky wig I got... 9 years ago in Japan (for a Roxas from Kingdom Hearts II costume I never finished), so happy to finally be using it! I actually bought two wigs off Amazon I was going to sew together for this, but when they came in the colour matched perfectly, so I've only cut apart one.<br />
E said she'd style it for me, so one less thing I have to do!<br />
Gotta sew like the wind now!</div>
Mihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15281457004935508990noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4722153016888385863.post-4854080671489451532015-07-06T15:48:00.000-07:002015-07-06T15:48:03.245-07:00Sweater Weather (not really)<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Oh whoops, didn't realize how long it'd been since I posted!<br />
<br />
So there was a bit of a heat wave here in CA last week. It was super warm, as in even <i>I</i> was warm and that hardly ever happens. It was over 100 F but I can't remember by how much.<br />
Anyway.<br />
I decided that it was a great time to make a sweater!<br />
<br />
A few weeks ago my sister and I went a liiiiittle crazy with the redtag table at Joann, getting loads of lovely stripey knits to create more Korean menswear inspired shirts.<br />
I also picked up a really light weight loose weave black and white striped knit, just a little over a yard left on the bolt.<br />
<br />
I've wanted a black and white stripey loose weave sweater since I saw it on Toshiya when this picture came out:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.braingell.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/dir-en-grey-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.braingell.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/dir-en-grey-2.jpg" height="320" width="262" /></a></div>
I don't even remember when that was now... I'm thinking 2004-2005. I can't even remember what this pic is promoing, I haven't followed dir en grey in years :/<br />
(Side note, I'm also quite fond of Kyo's outfit, the one front & center)<br />
<br />
I decided to do a cardigan instead of a sweater, 'cause I wanted something easier to put on and take off, since this is such a light fabric I was thinking it'd be used mostly for summer days. Plus I think the last time I had a cardigan I was 13, so it'd be a nice something to add to my wardrobe.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
I took a loosely knit sweater I had (bought for a River Tam costume that I never actually wore now that I think about it, but I wear the sweater quite a lot) that I like the general shape of and sort of traced it with pins onto the fabric 'cause I had no idea how to mark this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jSwvjfM1SyI/VZsDYs_D5yI/AAAAAAAABGc/c2I5GfLDzKM/s1600/IMG_8250.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jSwvjfM1SyI/VZsDYs_D5yI/AAAAAAAABGc/c2I5GfLDzKM/s320/IMG_8250.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Turned out to be good anyway, because this fabric was super shifty.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MkYdUzDtnFk/VZsDlguAEBI/AAAAAAAABGk/FveO75hBhkg/s1600/IMG_8251.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MkYdUzDtnFk/VZsDlguAEBI/AAAAAAAABGk/FveO75hBhkg/s320/IMG_8251.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I made slight adjustments on the pins and cut!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Also this way I was able to make sure the front and back stripes would match up.<br />
It was mostly a quick serge job, though I put stay tape in the shoulder seams and the back neck line. I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to knits, but it just seemed like a good idea!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wgltXnuG-A4/VZr_5RybrkI/AAAAAAAABFw/Kw4xzKu28e8/s1600/IMG_8261.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wgltXnuG-A4/VZr_5RybrkI/AAAAAAAABFw/Kw4xzKu28e8/s320/IMG_8261.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
It is actually even, I kept thinking whoa why does it look like that, but I didn't realize until I turned it around for the back shot that the fabric was clinging to the form and there was a large wrinkle across the back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2LRyv3fCedc/VZsANsQgQaI/AAAAAAAABF4/Kq-9N4xexJc/s1600/IMG_8262.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2LRyv3fCedc/VZsANsQgQaI/AAAAAAAABF4/Kq-9N4xexJc/s320/IMG_8262.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Fixed for the pic 8D<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EENEAOPtyxA/VZsATeJkH8I/AAAAAAAABGA/U48YceBem2M/s1600/IMG_8263.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EENEAOPtyxA/VZsATeJkH8I/AAAAAAAABGA/U48YceBem2M/s320/IMG_8263.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I love how it looks on the form, it's almost exactly what I wanted (I wanted the sashing a bit wider, but ran out of fabric, partially due to cutting it longer then changing my mind). A slouchy stripey casual cardigan. Love.<br />
Well.<br />
On meeeeee it doesn't look nearly so nice!<br />
It looks like ... I don't know, slobby instead of slouchy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LpOA7ZYIUvM/VZsBv0eD-SI/AAAAAAAABGM/eds0e0rO7bw/s1600/Untitled.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LpOA7ZYIUvM/VZsBv0eD-SI/AAAAAAAABGM/eds0e0rO7bw/s320/Untitled.png" width="132" /></a></div>
My mum suggested taking the shoulders in, we'll see. For now I'm calling it done. But I may see if my local Joann has the fabric and try again and give this one to my wider shouldered sister.<br />
It was just nice to make something and have it done!<br />
<br />
Sewing aside, here are more garden things!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KriBNUHWE-U/VZsEWdvOfxI/AAAAAAAABG4/52xAUCYoY8k/s1600/IMG_8248.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KriBNUHWE-U/VZsEWdvOfxI/AAAAAAAABG4/52xAUCYoY8k/s320/IMG_8248.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
My lemon cucumbers are super happy, so I did a quick pickle with some of them. SO GOOD.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dtvvtC6isWY/VZsElW2qBXI/AAAAAAAABHA/cTx2DRDsDcg/s1600/IMG_8256.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dtvvtC6isWY/VZsElW2qBXI/AAAAAAAABHA/cTx2DRDsDcg/s320/IMG_8256.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Seriously every time I chop up some of my beets I run and get my camera, they are just so lovely.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YMMN7PUqizo/VZsE32sVcsI/AAAAAAAABHI/4ner9CS9D8Y/s1600/IMG_8267.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YMMN7PUqizo/VZsE32sVcsI/AAAAAAAABHI/4ner9CS9D8Y/s320/IMG_8267.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Lastly, my pole beans are looking pretty happy! I'm not actually sure how to cook/eat pole beans, I just thought they'd look so pretty going up my fence. Guess I should look into it!</div>

Augh so behind in posting.<br />
<br />
Buuuut, I did complete challenge #4 - Something for the Home. And only two days late, so really, doing okay.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CU6mNiJLu8M/VXetj7HkFqI/AAAAAAAABDc/EJXaq563o2w/s1600/IMG_8222.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CU6mNiJLu8M/VXetj7HkFqI/AAAAAAAABDc/EJXaq563o2w/s320/IMG_8222.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
I did reusable cotton pads. Uh, the makeup kind, not the menstrual kind.<br />
<br />
I cut a bunch of 3.5" squares, all scraps yay. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VJW2Z604z9w/VXet2r0UbDI/AAAAAAAABDk/rlmhqoOFggI/s1600/IMG_8223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VJW2Z604z9w/VXet2r0UbDI/AAAAAAAABDk/rlmhqoOFggI/s320/IMG_8223.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The batting and the cotton came from my gramma, I can name almost everything they're leftovers from.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BK3fx3oMdlA/VXeuVUCTMHI/AAAAAAAABDs/MTDcbb2sdvY/s1600/IMG_8226.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BK3fx3oMdlA/VXeuVUCTMHI/AAAAAAAABDs/MTDcbb2sdvY/s320/IMG_8226.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
These are from a Mexican Star quilt she's making my uncle/2nd cousin/family is confusing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0odaAjb2qf8/VXeuscUzx6I/AAAAAAAABD0/vGYdOjeAiZU/s1600/IMG_8228.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0odaAjb2qf8/VXeuscUzx6I/AAAAAAAABD0/vGYdOjeAiZU/s320/IMG_8228.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
These I'm not sure about. It's so familiar I know I'll kick myself one I realize what quilt they're from. The pieced bits were already pieced scraps.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IH2cqM2gwMw/VXevFirG6BI/AAAAAAAABD8/lSz-JeFKBAg/s1600/IMG_8229.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IH2cqM2gwMw/VXevFirG6BI/AAAAAAAABD8/lSz-JeFKBAg/s320/IMG_8229.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The pink is from a sewing carry bag my gramma made me, the dark purple is I think from my brother's borgello quilt, and the impressionist flowers are from my mum's double wedding ring (I think that's the pattern? Something about rings) quilt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OjbrZ7atZB8/VXevh682TwI/AAAAAAAABEE/2TrAH6T30u8/s1600/IMG_8231.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OjbrZ7atZB8/VXevh682TwI/AAAAAAAABEE/2TrAH6T30u8/s320/IMG_8231.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The flannel backs are from some scrap flannel I bought to put pockets in my jimjams sometime ago.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qccqPJ5-6S8/VXevyq8KWsI/AAAAAAAABEM/oROa8g_I1nQ/s1600/IMG_8230.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qccqPJ5-6S8/VXevyq8KWsI/AAAAAAAABEM/oROa8g_I1nQ/s320/IMG_8230.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
All together I made 25, but I gave some to my sister. So far they're working great!<br />
<br />
And now some more beet pictures. They're just so pretty every time I eat them I take pictures ;_;<br />
Even if gardening didn't make me feel hobbity, I think I'd still plant beets because they're too lovely.<br />

May is over! It was so busy ;_;<br />
I still need to do another wedding dress post, so I'll leave that out, but other than that I'm just going to photo dump pretty much XD<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HAS_PR6nYBc/VXCt6kxUupI/AAAAAAAAA_c/QJGnNGXhahQ/s1600/IMG_7863.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HAS_PR6nYBc/VXCt6kxUupI/AAAAAAAAA_c/QJGnNGXhahQ/s320/IMG_7863.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For Mother's Day, I made Marmalade!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zRijSNfGA4A/VXCzUxdtSWI/AAAAAAAAA_s/DJS8jZsR8WM/s1600/IMG_7860.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zRijSNfGA4A/VXCzUxdtSWI/AAAAAAAAA_s/DJS8jZsR8WM/s320/IMG_7860.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
WHAT A CHORE. 12 lemons freshly washed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rfrwcT2_YJI/VXCzZf_sSrI/AAAAAAAAA_0/mQ1-6eHWrEE/s1600/IMG_7861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rfrwcT2_YJI/VXCzZf_sSrI/AAAAAAAAA_0/mQ1-6eHWrEE/s320/IMG_7861.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I followed <a href="http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/meyer-lemon-marmalade">this recipe</a>. I've never done anything like this before, but my friend had made marmalade with my lemons and I really like it, so she sent me the recipe she used and I did my best!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OFaYT__O4hE/VXCzjH1P4HI/AAAAAAAABAE/7wF5AQZNE2c/s1600/IMG_7864.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OFaYT__O4hE/VXCzjH1P4HI/AAAAAAAABAE/7wF5AQZNE2c/s320/IMG_7864.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Thankfully one of the random extra dishes my grandpa gave was this juicer. Thankfully because I hadn't even bothered to check I had one before beginning.<br />
I'm great at forethought. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E7qy6tOn7sk/VXCzjbohgWI/AAAAAAAABAA/xA8d017gfnA/s1600/IMG_7866.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E7qy6tOn7sk/VXCzjbohgWI/AAAAAAAABAA/xA8d017gfnA/s320/IMG_7866.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Forever later, all juiced!<br />
Then you have to scrape out all the insides and then slice the peels thinly. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XtXYGT4QFAA/VXC1I1VzlrI/AAAAAAAABAU/jJKBYjKbRQg/s1600/IMG_7868.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XtXYGT4QFAA/VXC1I1VzlrI/AAAAAAAABAU/jJKBYjKbRQg/s320/IMG_7868.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then you blanch the peels <i>three times</i>. I really don't know why.<br />
Then you add back the juice and add a bunch of sugar and just... stir FOREVER. Until it sets. I didn't even know what that meant so had to look it up.<br />
But it didn't set, and I got tired of waiting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m3rTgwe-dFs/VXC1IkuyetI/AAAAAAAABAQ/t0aF9i6gu1M/s1600/IMG_7869.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m3rTgwe-dFs/VXC1IkuyetI/AAAAAAAABAQ/t0aF9i6gu1M/s320/IMG_7869.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
My prepped jars. I didn't end up filling them all though.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H4RnK1Jlf_U/VXC1JLDasuI/AAAAAAAABAc/MIZ9GrJQb-4/s1600/IMG_7870.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H4RnK1Jlf_U/VXC1JLDasuI/AAAAAAAABAc/MIZ9GrJQb-4/s320/IMG_7870.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then you have to boil the jars. I didn't read the instructions before hand, because who knows why, and so didn't have a pot large enough. I could only do the three smaller ones, and then the two larger ones on their side.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j_1pW4ipHtw/VXC1J0JGq3I/AAAAAAAABAk/seCXM0RN5-Q/s1600/IMG_7871.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j_1pW4ipHtw/VXC1J0JGq3I/AAAAAAAABAk/seCXM0RN5-Q/s320/IMG_7871.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
They did actually set! Later. So I don't know what I was doing wrong that I couldn't tell? But it's still delicious. Probably won't do it again in a hurry though! The whole process took me 6 hours @.@<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X3WZWmdbcMQ/VXC3UFblaVI/AAAAAAAABA0/GeWPZ4RUJKQ/s1600/IMG_7876.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X3WZWmdbcMQ/VXC3UFblaVI/AAAAAAAABA0/GeWPZ4RUJKQ/s320/IMG_7876.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
So I actually made this in December, but when I made it I couldn't find my snap press so gave it to my sister without taking pics. Then later I went and put the snaps in, and forgot to take completed pics. Then <a href="http://confused-kitty.com/">AJ</a> mentioned maybe making a makeup bag so I took these pics for her.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qZM4uySei5o/VXC3UOKLnHI/AAAAAAAABA4/SOkc6U9LmBM/s1600/IMG_7877.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qZM4uySei5o/VXC3UOKLnHI/AAAAAAAABA4/SOkc6U9LmBM/s320/IMG_7877.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I really like this bag, my sister who's huge into makeup says it's great for a travel bag. So I may make one for myself.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e7xeD8GmJQU/VXC3UQW1fAI/AAAAAAAABA8/Ic_4cYD6maE/s1600/IMG_7879.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e7xeD8GmJQU/VXC3UQW1fAI/AAAAAAAABA8/Ic_4cYD6maE/s320/IMG_7879.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
These are terrible pictures I know, but <a href="http://so-sew-easy.com/ankes-brushes-bag-free-pattern/#_a5y_p=2540357">this is the pattern I used</a>, and bonus it's free!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aaLrArVjQEk/VXC5cEyiOnI/AAAAAAAABBM/Eb1kFwUOEao/s1600/IMG_7887.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aaLrArVjQEk/VXC5cEyiOnI/AAAAAAAABBM/Eb1kFwUOEao/s320/IMG_7887.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I went to RuPaul's DragCon in LA, it was super fabulous. But I really didn't take many pictures, idk why D:<br />

These are some of RuPaul's outfits, gorgeous.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I didn't dress up, I have nothing fabulous and couldn't make up my mind in time to borrow something. Plus then I would have had to do my face aaaand, I'm just so lazy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1rcqSw8KfLc/VXC5eTWNGuI/AAAAAAAABBs/a3XnW3UT3eU/s1600/IMG_7895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1rcqSw8KfLc/VXC5eTWNGuI/AAAAAAAABBs/a3XnW3UT3eU/s320/IMG_7895.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The signs were amazing. I should have taken a pic of all of them.<br />
Ah well.<br />
Moving on. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4G38KSSadGM/VXC7UYJgyUI/AAAAAAAABCU/klYk010Ilxw/s1600/IMG_7919.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4G38KSSadGM/VXC7UYJgyUI/AAAAAAAABCU/klYk010Ilxw/s320/IMG_7919.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I sorted all these blocks I got from the Northern CA Quilt Rush and then chose some to make my sister this <a href="http://www.patchworkposse.com/shark-pencil-case-tutorial/">shark pencil case</a> she requested.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7S7P_EGrlqQ/VXC7TZKb7qI/AAAAAAAABCE/OnWRABAMTyk/s1600/IMG_7920.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7S7P_EGrlqQ/VXC7TZKb7qI/AAAAAAAABCE/OnWRABAMTyk/s320/IMG_7920.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Totally mis-measured and thought I'd only need 6 squares initially, whoops.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NDI3Z_c91Tw/VXC7T851ydI/AAAAAAAABCY/0hKqHqI5Z5w/s1600/IMG_7921.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NDI3Z_c91Tw/VXC7T851ydI/AAAAAAAABCY/0hKqHqI5Z5w/s320/IMG_7921.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
All cut out!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DzgkAsFRlkw/VXC7U0hoABI/AAAAAAAABCc/5JSlI80u9IA/s1600/IMG_7922.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DzgkAsFRlkw/VXC7U0hoABI/AAAAAAAABCc/5JSlI80u9IA/s320/IMG_7922.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I didn't read the instructions all the way before starting this (surprise! That's become a trend with me lately, need to stop doing that...) because I figured how hard can a bag be. So I would have done some things differently.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rBQm8aGruII/VXC7VySVyPI/AAAAAAAABCo/JUazHWEWR5M/s1600/IMG_7923.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rBQm8aGruII/VXC7VySVyPI/AAAAAAAABCo/JUazHWEWR5M/s320/IMG_7923.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Like the seam in the middle there? Is to make the pouch round (and contain the upper fin), I wouldn't have put one in the bottom, so the bottom could stay flat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DvpBC-pgZjM/VXC7WUoj48I/AAAAAAAABC0/cszQdJBdEVY/s1600/IMG_7924.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DvpBC-pgZjM/VXC7WUoj48I/AAAAAAAABC0/cszQdJBdEVY/s320/IMG_7924.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Also it's smaller than I thought it would be, too small to even fit my hand in, so I'd make it larger if I did it again.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2KLxSBbEyTw/VXC7W3T8ZKI/AAAAAAAABCw/Np4u8vDSJgQ/s1600/IMG_7925.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2KLxSBbEyTw/VXC7W3T8ZKI/AAAAAAAABCw/Np4u8vDSJgQ/s320/IMG_7925.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
But it still came out pretty cute! Oh and the zipper mouth was really hard and fiddly because of the smallness.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VYmWsJON0Z0/VXC-PW_sFXI/AAAAAAAABC8/UUTTwFMMm1c/s1600/IMG_7874.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VYmWsJON0Z0/VXC-PW_sFXI/AAAAAAAABC8/UUTTwFMMm1c/s320/IMG_7874.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Quick garden shot. The sweetpeas look SUPER cute with my roses. They took so long to come up I thought they weren't going to, but then they exploded. Nice and fragrant :D<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zk5Fzz3IHME/VXC-PhJmAwI/AAAAAAAABDA/O5aiQKUwEn8/s1600/IMG_7882.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zk5Fzz3IHME/VXC-PhJmAwI/AAAAAAAABDA/O5aiQKUwEn8/s320/IMG_7882.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally, aren't my beets beautiful! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Also delicious.</div>

So the last Sewalong Challenge was for two months, March and April, to allow time to make a full vintage outfit. I skipped that one to make the wedding dress (which, btw, finished! Only 2 days later than my hoped for finishing date), but back to it now!<br />
<br />
This month the challenge is "Something For The Home."
I have some ideas that are way outside my time frame, and I have some ideas that require me to have actual furniture first (that's the plan for the summer! ... Hopefully), but realistically I'm going to have to stick to small things!<br />
<br />
First up for me is resuable makeup pads!<br />
<br />
<div style="line-height: 0px; padding-bottom: 2px;">
<a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/114771490474089257/" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/aa/59/8b/aa598b00495c604d0ce25d919f7760fc.jpg" /></a></div>

</div>
<br />
<br />
Hopefully super fast and easy, I can use scraps, and will be perfect for the post-facewash toner. I've been using witch hazel because I read to, but I can't tell if it's made any difference because I never really looked at my face before using it to know XD Whoops.<br />
<br />
More ideas under the cut!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="line-height: 0px; padding-bottom: 2px;">
<a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/174373816794931864/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/7e/31/53/7e3153d4f0bc6091afb5a825abeaa755.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>

</div>
<br />
<br />
I've been meaning to do "unpaper towels" for awhile now, I even bought a big snap set to use on them. But I already use kitchen towels and cloth napkins all the time, so at this point these would be more for the cuteness factor.<br />
<br />
Plus the more I thought about it the more setting it up with all those snaps after every wash seemed like a pain, more of a pain than reaching into a drawer and grabbing the closest dishtowel. But I saw someone's blog (which I can't find now, sorry) who instead of setting them up in the paper towel roll they put a button hole on one side and hung them on a hook. So I may do that!<br />

<br />
<br />
Technically I don't have a swiffer, I have a sponge mop, but I think I can use the same principle and sort of... make it swiffer like. And I could use some of those snaps I bought here!<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I don't know if I'll get to something like this, but I'm all for DIY things that save me money & use up scraps.<br />
<br />

</div>
<br />
<br />
More ideas, not sure if this would actually be useful for me, I don't think I've plasticwrapped a bowl in the last 6 months.<br />
<br />
I think I'm also going to try to make a... I don't know what it's called. Door draft blocker? There's a door to the bathroom in my room and if the light is on in there it's quite bright. It doesn't bother me if I'm already asleep, but if someone goes in while I'm drifting off it wakes me right up.<br />
<br />
Anyway! I'm sure there are loads more home crafts people can come up with, but those are mostly what's on my mind.</div>
Mihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15281457004935508990noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4722153016888385863.post-22467476680494525552015-04-29T10:35:00.001-07:002015-04-29T10:35:21.358-07:00D's Wedding Dress Progress 4<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Plugging away on the dress! I'm at a stage where there's a lot of hand work so it the progress looks very slow and hasn't been worth posting about. I'm in a (hopefully) final push right now, I'm trying to finish by this weekend so D has time to get it to the dry cleaners and I have time to catch up on my Arabic homework before my class is over (I keep telling myself it's just for fun and the grade doesn't matter but... yeah no).<br />
<br />
Anyway, I realized I actually hadn't posted as much as I thought, so I *do* have something to post about 8D<br />
<br />
I want to post more garden/produce pics though, 'cause it makes me feel Hobbity, so, later. <br />
<br />
Right so, wedding dress.<br />
<br />
After that stage I had D come over and we pinned lace on all over.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BONpNaLVlas/VUEPithV3wI/AAAAAAAAA8Y/mY2o_lhai7E/s1600/IMG_7698.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BONpNaLVlas/VUEPithV3wI/AAAAAAAAA8Y/mY2o_lhai7E/s1600/IMG_7698.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Looks nice right?<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Actually it turned out really different.<br />
'Cause after that we turned towards the back. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3gdjTP1-asc/VUEPigG-1FI/AAAAAAAAA8U/-jonfXNA4Qg/s1600/IMG_7716.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3gdjTP1-asc/VUEPigG-1FI/AAAAAAAAA8U/-jonfXNA4Qg/s1600/IMG_7716.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: black;">And in the back we wanted a much more symmetrical look.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then we decided that due to that we needed a more symmetrical look in the front.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LLXaWfcXmeQ/VUEPiPlXQlI/AAAAAAAAA8Q/J-RqZBX7e-g/s1600/IMG_7713.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LLXaWfcXmeQ/VUEPiPlXQlI/AAAAAAAAA8Q/J-RqZBX7e-g/s1600/IMG_7713.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So some things stayed, and some things ended up changing.<br />
<br />
I had to take each piece of lace of bit by bit and take photos as I did so I'd remember what bit went where, that part of slow going.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fEtCFkOavfE/VUEUXB8rgXI/AAAAAAAAA8w/5XWIPY2wxHQ/s1600/IMG_7714.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fEtCFkOavfE/VUEUXB8rgXI/AAAAAAAAA8w/5XWIPY2wxHQ/s1600/IMG_7714.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
LOTS of pics like this.<br />
<br />
Then we had to do quick skirt fitting, since it'd be easier to do that without all the lace bits.<br />

The skirt is just basted on here.<br />
<br />
After marking height and such I took that baby right off 'cause man is it unwieldy.<br />
<br />
And then the slow slow process of hand tacking bits of lace all about. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Eq6F4FG5Vxg/VUEVeyNBzYI/AAAAAAAAA9A/WXpJrAAd-kU/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Eq6F4FG5Vxg/VUEVeyNBzYI/AAAAAAAAA9A/WXpJrAAd-kU/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is from way earlier this month, I'm almost completely done w/ the lace now, but I still need to tack the lining to the zip, put hook and eyes in the appropriate places, add the buttons, attach the skirt lining and all those myriad finicky finishing things. <br />
<br />
I probably won't properly post about it again until it's done, so close!<br />

Back to sewing later. For now, a garden update!<br />
<br />
I can't seem to find a pic of it totally before I started working, but here's the section of my yard I'm focusing on gardening right now.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UPHfN2vd6Fw/VS7rsTzLXYI/AAAAAAAAA6M/H_-ZEG3-s3Q/s1600/IMG_7347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UPHfN2vd6Fw/VS7rsTzLXYI/AAAAAAAAA6M/H_-ZEG3-s3Q/s1600/IMG_7347.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
I was scraping weeds before putting a planter box down. D gave me several of these planter boxes! This was taken in January I think.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F-vIzFszqtE/VS7rsKzWV-I/AAAAAAAAA6I/Zcn5HZ5pkz8/s1600/IMG_7348.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F-vIzFszqtE/VS7rsKzWV-I/AAAAAAAAA6I/Zcn5HZ5pkz8/s1600/IMG_7348.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
You can see just beyond the box there that there's a strip of dirt, in there already my mum and I had planted some peas, beets, and raspberries.<br />
<br />
I was positive I'd taken pics in the interim, but I can't find any... kind of a bummer 'cause I remember taking a pic of the cute stick teepees I made... anyway, flash forward to April!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EcNb9XXjCHc/VS7uEme4t2I/AAAAAAAAA6c/PlDyUlOTjhQ/s1600/IMG_7727.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EcNb9XXjCHc/VS7uEme4t2I/AAAAAAAAA6c/PlDyUlOTjhQ/s1600/IMG_7727.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I finally get around to putting dirt in that box! And I started laying down landscaping fabric and putting bark over it.<br />
You can see my peas are coming up nicely!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xfd1d4KbYYw/VS7wLTOMgMI/AAAAAAAAA60/tA-fgyzyKRo/s1600/IMG_7732.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xfd1d4KbYYw/VS7wLTOMgMI/AAAAAAAAA60/tA-fgyzyKRo/s1600/IMG_7732.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
This is more how it looks now, I still haven't put anything in the bin closest here, 'cause I need to go get more dirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6jG2o1BrLlM/VS7v_eHmOSI/AAAAAAAAA6s/2Kj2w0tcDa0/s1600/IMG_7728.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6jG2o1BrLlM/VS7v_eHmOSI/AAAAAAAAA6s/2Kj2w0tcDa0/s1600/IMG_7728.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Produce though!<br />
This was the 3rd. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Zcak24XIAEY/VS7vkWwriXI/AAAAAAAAA6k/37J6IM4ltLc/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Zcak24XIAEY/VS7vkWwriXI/AAAAAAAAA6k/37J6IM4ltLc/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
I ended up sauteing them with some of the beets I thinned out and some bok choy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JQDzoaaQ-KI/VS7wL_zjq4I/AAAAAAAAA64/sXzJEBfMdIY/s1600/IMG_7730.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JQDzoaaQ-KI/VS7wL_zjq4I/AAAAAAAAA64/sXzJEBfMdIY/s1600/IMG_7730.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
BLOSSOMS ON MY RASPBERRIES. <br />
Super excited.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0VX-LOvfGy0/VS7wL4uW3rI/AAAAAAAAA7A/0lIaOdwLdHQ/s1600/IMG_7731.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0VX-LOvfGy0/VS7wL4uW3rI/AAAAAAAAA7A/0lIaOdwLdHQ/s1600/IMG_7731.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
And on my strawberries! But I don't expect much from them this year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SFrDl2znMxA/VS7wM5xBTcI/AAAAAAAAA7I/gkDLtSgKB0A/s1600/IMG_7733.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SFrDl2znMxA/VS7wM5xBTcI/AAAAAAAAA7I/gkDLtSgKB0A/s1600/IMG_7733.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Tied some sticks together from a fig tree that was in my sideyard but was randomly cut down right before I took possession.<br />
Planted my cucumber seedlings!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rTlDc32QIpk/VS7wNkcx9zI/AAAAAAAAA7U/FlAQuHVjswU/s1600/IMG_7735.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rTlDc32QIpk/VS7wNkcx9zI/AAAAAAAAA7U/FlAQuHVjswU/s1600/IMG_7735.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Still lots of work to be done!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fIC6dQ6ToNQ/VS7y2qxkIZI/AAAAAAAAA7g/bshJEGPgMQY/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fIC6dQ6ToNQ/VS7y2qxkIZI/AAAAAAAAA7g/bshJEGPgMQY/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
On the 8th I picked a bunch of peas!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Yo10TJMoVtk/VS7y3JWo-gI/AAAAAAAAA7k/D_g3UdBvhrM/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Yo10TJMoVtk/VS7y3JWo-gI/AAAAAAAAA7k/D_g3UdBvhrM/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm pretty sure I sauteed these also.<br />
<br />
But!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KFvzfgdBABA/VS7zNFQDVcI/AAAAAAAAA7w/EUwIIU6PaIk/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KFvzfgdBABA/VS7zNFQDVcI/AAAAAAAAA7w/EUwIIU6PaIk/s1600/photo%2B2.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
On the 12th I saw I had even more!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RXD8U9H3uuo/VS7zUqWd-JI/AAAAAAAAA74/BAi31M4jlbM/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RXD8U9H3uuo/VS7zUqWd-JI/AAAAAAAAA74/BAi31M4jlbM/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
I munched away on these while working on some other stuff. Yum!<br />
<br />
So not a LOT in the scheme of things, but it was exciting to me 8D<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
